Planning Forester

Overview

  • Develop and implement detailed forest management plans that prioritize sustainability and efficiency. This includes determining harvesting schedules, regeneration plans, and habitat management strategies.

  • Forest Inventories & Assessments: Conduct forest inventories to assess tree species, growth rates, forest health, and other key ecological metrics.

  • Analyze ecological and forest management data to inform decision-making and identify potential risks and opportunities.

  • Work with stakeholders to ensure forest management plans align with local, provincial, and federal regulations.

  • Ensure that planning strategies are in line with sustainable forestry practices, balancing timber production with wildlife conservation, soil health, and water quality.

  • Monitor ongoing forest management activities and assess the need for adjustments to plans based on changes in forest conditions, market demand, or regulatory requirements.

  • Identify potential risks related to forest health, wildfire, pest outbreaks, and climate change, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.

Qualifications

 

  • Registered, or with the ability to register, with the FPBC as a Registered Professional Forester

  • At least 5 years of previous experience in related work (Preference given to those with BC Coastal Forestry experience)

  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines​ Experience in writing site plans, collaborating on land use plans and forest landscape or stewardship plans.  

  • Experience with ArcGIS, ForestOps, Phoenix

  • Working knowledge of silviculture software with preference given to those with training in RESULTS  

  • Ability to create and manage budgets and proformas.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Physically fit and capable of working in coastal terrain

  • Willing to work 10/4 shifts in remote areas with camp/lodging provided

  • Enjoy learning and challenging themselves

  • Must be organized

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Hold a valid class 5 Driver's License 

  • Hold a valid First Aid with transport endorsement (preferred)

  • Embrace safety and lead by example

  • Believe in the benefits of land stewardship

$90,000 - $110,000 Annually
